ART MATERIALS FOR CHILD REFUGEES

In the Spring of 2022 I worked as a volunteer in Amsterdam Central Station, greeting and helping those arriving here, who have fled the Russian invasion in their homeland of Ukraine.

At the station I spent some time drawing and playing with the younger children. With the help of colouring pencils, pens and paper some of the children were able to bond with other children, play and laugh but another little boy quietly drew fighter jets and tanks. Seeing the drawings he had made prompted me to think of other ways to help practically but also personally, I then set up this fundraiser. So with your help, I am collecting donations to be able to purchase more drawing and art materials for child refugees. I am delivering these to the Red Cross centres and shelter points, where families have been accommodated across the city. I have also been hosting arts groups for children and also for adults, directly at the hostels. Together we have made beautiful creations, and some happy memories. Classes have included such things as Ukrainian wild flowers made in paper, pop up drawings, decorated paper collage creatures with finger painting, and hand made decorations and paper doves for the Christmas tree.
