ABOUT


Lydia is an English print and textile designer and artist, with over 14 years of experience of designing print and textiles, specialising in design for fashion. She was raised in a family of three generations of fine artists, her Grandmother a Painter and Muralist and her Grandfather, Painter and Professor of Painting at the Royal College of Art. Her love of textiles has lead her to explore the ancient city of Varanasi in search of Benares silk, the Punjab, the bustling textile factories of Istanbul and the silk capital of Italy, Lake Como. Her fascination with textiles was enriched further by living and working in Northern India for six months before taking a BA (HONS) Degree in Surface Pattern and Printed Textiles at Leeds College of Art (1st BA HONS). Her interest in historical fashion and textile preservation lead her to work as a Researcher in the Fashion and Textile department of the Victoria & Albert Museum and costume archives of Leeds city museums.

Starting her professional career as a Textile Designer for luxury womenswear whilst working in the Dress Fabric Dept at Liberty, London and as a Studio Assistant at Zandra Rhodes, before joining the iconic British brand Paul Smith, as Print and Textile Designer for Menswear and Accessories. After Paul Smith, she went on to design for Calvin Klein, working as the sole Print and Graphic Designer for Menswear and Mens Formal Accessories, before moving to join the Calvin Klein Accessories team, where she designed Soft Accessories and Printed Graphics across the various collections. From Calvin Klein she went on to design print and woven textiles for international companies and fashion brands in Europe and Canada. Lydia has been a guest lecturer at The Artworkers’ Guild, where she is an active Brother since 2012 and has taught within art and fashion schools and recently set up art classes for child refugees.

During the covid lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 in Amsterdam, she widened her horizons through her work, way beyond fashion. Driven by an inquisitive nature combined with a pleasure of life details. Her references include ancient history, the decorative arts, and religious painting. Moving into illustration, collage, painting, ceramics, design for interiors and in creating objet d'art and precious objects, in the form of adorned Oyster shells.

Her illustrations have been featured in Elle Japan, House & Garden and British Vogue and her painted and cut collages have been featured by The World of Interiors, Conde Nast.

She works as a senior print designer and freelance artist for both Fashion and Interiors.
